Christianity 101= 12 Myths

Blog No. 33 Twelve Myths of Contemporary Christianity

1. That the interpretation of Scripture must be relevant to present-day practise and experience.

2. That profession of faith in Jesus Christ is pure and simple a deliverance from eternal destruction and a sure-fire passport to heaven.

3. That "total surrender" is the answer to Christian life and ministry.

4. That the works of the believer are successful irregardless of the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit.

5. That sin has been dealt with at the cross and therefore it is not a significant in the life of the believer.

6. That we as believers no longer need to "seek" God because we have already found Him.

7. That folllowing the ten commandments is a sure-fire way of living the Christian life.

8. That the shorter catechism, the different dispensational systems and the various millennial views are all legitimate ways of being "diligent  to present oneself approved to God rightly handling the word of truth".

9. That the work of global evangelism squarely rests on the shoulders of the individual believer in Jesus Christ.

10. That a personal, once-for-all offering of a believer's life to God is neither reasonable or necessary.

11. That...

Post No. 32=The "Christian World" vs. the world of the Scripture

1. The "Christian world" declares that the way to eternal life is secured merely by a profession of faith. The word "believe" has a far more comprehensive meaning. The word "believe" when used in the Scriptures such as John 3:16 means to "trust in, "cling to" and "rely on". (Amp. Bible)

2. The "Christian world" emphasizes the word "justification" by faith to the complete exclusion of the word "sanctification". The latter word according to the Scriptures is also a gift. It is received by repentance and submission. Romans 6:22,23, Romans 12:1 Notice that in these Scriptures we have the beginning and the continuing of holines.

3. The "Christian world" insists that the great comission was given to every believer while the Scriptures apply it specifically to those who are called.  Matthew 9:35-38, Acts 1:2, Romans 9:12-15

4. The  believer's Spirit filled and Spirit directed life is the second great impact for global evangelization. Matthew 5:16, Matthew 9:35-38, I Peter 2:12, I Peter  3:15

Post No. 31-Why won't we Allow God to do His Work?

1. Jesus wants everyone who comes to Him to become His disciple. Matthew 10:34-39

2. Jesus wants everyone who comes to Him to be delivered from sin, to declare themselves His bondservants. In this way they will be placed on the path of holiness. Romans 6:22

3. Jesus wants all who come to Him in this manner to follow the path of holiness resulting in eternal life. Romans 6:22,23, Heb 12:14

4. Jesus wants His followers to pray that God will send laborers into the harvest fields. Matthew 9:36-38

5. The Scriptures declare that whoever calls upon the name of the Lord wil be saved. It also states that they will not believe unless they hear the Word. This will occur through preaching by THOSE WHO ARE SENT. Romans 10:13-15

6. How can we do the work of God if we do not allow the Spirit of God to work in us?

7. How can we expect the Spirit of God to work in us if we refuse to take the yoke of submission, of servitude, to Jesus Christ to be put upon us?

8. Oh? When will we...

Blog No. 29-How will Jesus appear when we see Him?

February 19, 2010

Will He be the "gentle Jesus meek and mild"?

Will He be the attractive and handsome man depicted in world-wide pictures?

His coming will be mourned by many. Revelation 1:7

He will speak with a loud, booming voice. Revelation 1:10,15

He will appear dressed in a long flowing robe with a golden band around His waist. Revelation 1:13

His head and hair will appear like wool, His eyes like flames of fire, His feet like polished brass. Revelation 1:14,15

To John the glory of His countenance was something to behold. John fell at His feet awestruck. It was as if He were dead. Revelation 1:16,17

He is portrayed in the Book of Revelation as One coming to prepare His people.

His sword, the Word of God, is poised to strike His enemies and pierce deep in the heart of believers. Nothing will be hidden from His awesome gaze. "all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account." Hebrews 4:13

Only the works of a believer initiated by the Holy Spirit, who through the once-for-all presentation of his life to God, will stand and endure in that day. I Corinthians 3:13-17

Only the Word...

BLOG NO. 28-WORD GAMES OF CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIANITY

February 16, 2010

"We are not talking about words, but of the meaning of words". Unknown

The meaning of the word disciple by contemporary Christianity has absolutely no connection to the way Christ used the word.

Years ago I heard a noted Christian leader refer to the emptiness of faith as "easy-believism". Actually "easy-believism" is no believism at all.

There is much more to communicating the gospel than the use of words. I Thessalonians 1:5 The multitude of words hide the true meaning of the preaching of the cross I Corinthians 4:20

Most contemporary Bible studies consists of little moree than a mere collection of information. "For Christ did not send me to baptoze but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect." I Corinthians 1:17

"and I will know, not the word of those who are puffed, but the power." I Corinthians 4:19

If the REALIZATION of spiritual truth does not lead to a PRESENTATION of the believer's life to God it has little true meaning. Romans 6

If a believer's confession is merely connected to Jesus Christ by realization and not as a UNION its authenticity may well be...

BLOG NO. 27-HOW CAN WE LIVE A RIGHTEOUS LIFE?

February 3, 2010

The standard by which believer's live is not the ten commandments. To try to obey them perfectly only intensifies our utter helplessnes before God.The Holy Spirit's work is to lead us to a life lived in His power and direction.

Christian morality is mere fancy if the Holy Spirit is not allowed to "take over" in the Christian's life. Romans chapter 8 describes this in detail.

How can we embrace righteousness if we have not embraced God's call to present our bodies a living sacrifice?

God calls a believer to a presentation of the members of his body; a once-for-all living sacrifice. It is a holy set-apart sacrifice. It is a sacrifice which God declares to be acceptable to Him.It is a sacrifice which God declares to be a service of worship. Romans 12:1

It is the beginning of a God-enabled TRANSFORMATION which enables the believer to prove the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

We can grow in holiness and righteousness but we cannot initiate them any more than a caterpillar can change itself into a butterfly. God, the Holy Spirit, is the Sanctifier, we cannot change ourselves.

When we learn and embrace this truth we can go...

Blog No. 26- The Three-legged Stool

January 29, 2010

There are three parts to the Christian life

1. We were saved-Justification Ephesians 2:8

2. We are being saved- Sanctification I Timothy 4:16, Ephesians 2:10

3. We shall be saved-Glorification Romans 8:30, I Peter 1:7

We were saved by the work of God (in Christ) for us. We are being saved (set apart) by the work of God for us. We shall be saved by the completion of that work of God.

Please note that all three legs of the stool are needed. They all support and authenicate each other.

Justification is that work of Christ by which God declares the believing sinner righteous in His sight. Romans 3:21,22

Sanctification is that work of God in the life of the believer. It is through the operation of the Holy Spirit who sets him apart to perform the works of God in and through Him. I Peter 1:2, II Thessalonians 2:13 and I Corinthians 1:30

Our problem has been that the second leg of the stool has weakened the other two. All three legs of the stool must support each other. Otherwise there is weakness, instability and ineffectiveness.

The past 25 posts to my blog have mostly dealt with the second....
